I should point out I have two access points at opposite ends of the
house, with the same ESSID. The one nearest my laptop right now is the
only one it can see. It's a netgear wndr3700 running dd-wrt. The other
one is the same model but running openwrt.

The fact remains a macbook pro sat next to it maintained a solid
connection while testing, so I don't think there's anything wrong with
the access points. I also never had this happen on 12.04 before
upgrading.
