Hi,

Odd thing, Your scripts are using /proc/acpi/.... In my case there is no such a 
folder. 
Mine Ubuntu 12.04 has information about battery in different files at 
/sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/.


I've found this topic. They are using the ACPI output.

I'm not a programer but here is mine script. 
Beware sometimes it has a problem after resuming from the standby. I do not 
know why :-(.
