Ah, I forgot it was in partner. I had a concern after remembering that there might be an issue with us updating the package. slangasek on IRC said we already diverge and can do it, but we should contact upstream (he would do that). Beyond that, I withdraw my objection to a skype-only workaround (I have no comment on the merits of this workaround, other than to say it seems quite odd that this fixes things), but I have no real insight into why this is a problem. If we employ a workaround, I suggest updating the debian/changelog and the script to reference the upstream bug, and adjust the script to use 'exec ...' instead of backgrounding the process.
