Hi Charles, We've recently been seeing a number of bugs where Compiz is crashing (bug #1166765), which exhibits this behavior. In those cases, it seems the Nvidia binary drivers are being used. However, in this bug, it's not clear which gfx card is being used.
Could you provide which gfx card is being used in your case? I'd like get a bit more info before dup'ing to the aforementioned bug.
