Public bug reported:

So, we currently support Flickr and it looks like Instagram will be
landing early during the S cycle. These two protocols are both primarily
image-sharing sites, and friends-app handles this a little bit goofily,
displaying the image caption but requiring a click in order to even see
the thumbnail.

i think the layout should be changed so that image thumbnails are always
displayed (even when the message details are collapsed), and it should
probably be arranged at the top of the message, with the caption beneath
it. It would be harmlessly hidden for messages that don't have
thumbnails, but it would make flickr, instagram, and facebook links look
a bit more attractive.

(we should also look into using larger thumbnails / scaling them so they
take the whole width of the column, that would be really sexy)
