The bug looks to be in Dolphin. I'm not seeing it when opening XML (or XHTML) files from Konqueror. This is with 4.8.4.
I have Kwrite set as my most preferred application for XML files. Double clicking an XML file in Dolphin opens it in FIrefox (my default browser). Double clicking the same XML file in Konqueror opens it in Kwrite. Dolphin also does this with HTML files. Konqueror opens HTML files in itself instead of my most preferred application.
