Face it: there will be no bug fix, really.
I had exactly the same problem for a long time (system slow, NIC fails/slow 
throughput after a few minutes).

SOLUTION:

1. change the PCI NIC to another slot so that it's not on the same interrupt 
with the nvidia (check with "cat /proc/interrupts")
--> system not slow anymore

2. change the PCI NIC with a PCIe NIC (no IRQ handling failures anymore)
--> stable network connection

That's it!
