Hah, got it by editing grub.cfg as Jon and Tom suggested. Specifically I added the acpi /boot/DSDT.aml command right before the line that says "echo 'Loading Linux 3.2.0-40-generic ...' And if I boot into the 3.2.0.40 kernal my computer starts right up. Thanks everyone.
