OK, I've tried with both those network-managers, but kept getting that same DBus error.
I had to tweak a few things to build the network-managers: - added -u--ignore-missing-info to dh_shlibdeps in debian/rules, to avoid missing info for a package (I think it was libmm-glib) - removed libmm-glib-dev from dependencies, as I couldn't find that package (i.e. deleted the line from debian/controls) - built with --builder='debuild -b -us -uc' to avoid GPG error Starting ModemManager --debug manually still gives: [main.c:114] name_lost_cb(): Could not acquire the 'org.freedesktop.ModemManager1' service name And in the syslog this happens ...
