You aren't the first to mention keyboard or mouse problems when using
failsafeX, but the issue is not reproducible here.
The failsafeX server doesn't enable or disable input devices, and there
isn't any particular difference in how it handles them vs. "standard" X,
although some daemon processes may not be running or certain gconf
settings may not be in effect since this isn't a "full" desktop load.
My guess is the issue is something peculiar with your hardware, like usb
devices aren't getting enabled or some such. I would need to see
Xorg.0.log and dmesg from a working session and a non-working session to
compare, as a start.
