run applications/accessories/terminal
type "dpkg --configure -a" (without the quotes) then press enter.
This is most probably not a bug. Only the programs on the ubuntu
repository, that means programs you install through add/remove programs
or synaptic package manager, are supported by ubuntu. If this does not
solve your problem, you may have more luck with the answers section.

cannot install new programs, error is more than one software managment programs
are open, cannot find them though
