I just upgraded from Kubuntu 12.10 to 13.04, and have been struck by
this. Unless I attach my external monitor (via HDMI) during boot, my
laptop's LCD goes blank after showing the "Kubuntu" logo for a few
seconds. I know it's getting to the KDM login screen, since if I move my
mouse down+right, then click, the system powers down. (The shutdown
button is at the extreme bottom right.)

Attached is the output of 'intel_reg_dumper' on my system, after
successfully logging in (booting with monitor attached).

** Attachment added: "Output of intel_reg_dumper on a ZaReason Strata 5330
laptop with Intel video (lspci says: "Intel Corporation Core Processor
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)")"
