In dropdown networks menu, "Wi-Fi Networks" is uneselectable, and below
that appears that statement "Wi-Fi is disabled by hardware switch".
Entering rfkill list in a terminal produces the following output:

2: asus-wlan: Wireless LAN
        Soft blocked: no
        Hard blocked: no
3: asus-bluetooth: Bluetooth
        Soft blocked: no
        Hard blocked: no

        Soft blocked: no
        Hard blocked: no

Toggling wireless via [Function Key]+F2 produces the following rfkill
list output:

1: phy0: Wireless LAN
        Soft blocked: yes
        Hard blocked: yes
2: asus-wlan: Wireless LAN
        Soft blocked: yes
        Hard blocked: no
3: asus-bluetooth: Bluetooth
        Soft blocked: no
        Hard blocked: no
6: hci0:

        Soft blocked: no
        Hard blocked: no

Restarting the netbook does not solve the solution. None of the
solutions provided in the bug at address
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1172151
provide effective results.
