  This is happening on saucy testing installs, both with openbox and
  unity. Both are built up from minimal installs using --no-install-
  recommends to keep the system lightweight.
  
  When I go to remove a residual config or an obsolete package, synaptic
  locks up. It's necessary to issue the command
  
  sudo killall synaptic
  
  before I can launch it again.
  
- I'm not sure if this is related, but if I open synaptic in a terminal, I
- get repeated error messages:

- (synaptic:1346): Gtk-WARNING **: GtkNotebook 0x98e3128 is mapped but
- visible child GtkLabel 0x9a17970 is not mapped

- The string 0x98e3128 remains the same but the second string changes each
- time.
