I found I had a copy of my xorg.conf from when I was running FC5.
(backups are a wonderous thing).
I noticed that the most likely difference was in the device section:
Section "Device"
Identifier "ATI Technologies Inc Radeon R250 [Mobility FireGL
9000]"
# Driver "ati"
Driver "radeon"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
EndSection
I just switched from the "ati" to my FC5 value of "radeon". I thought I
had found the fix, but with a little more effort caused it to happen
again.
