This bug has been affecting me for the past two months or more, but until now I haven't been able to find anything useful on the subject.
The notification won't submit a report, though I have tried numerous times. It says the report file is corrupted, then wants me to give my password again. Thanks for the clue about /var/crash. The crash file has some clues, essentially confirming what I already suspected. The file contains a core dump, which probably explains the issue with file corruption -- the computer has 6 GB main memory. The crashs appear to be due to pulse audio being invoked from openjdk6. The crash file is named /var/crash/_usr_lib_jvm_java-6-openjdk- amd64_jre_bin_java.0.crash The first two files mentioned in the crash report are: /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk-amd64/jre/bin/java and /run/shm/pulse-shm-602413393 These crash reports are no doubt caused by negative interaction between openjdk6 and thinkorswim (a trading platform by TDAmeritrade) because ToS crashes occasionally, but I don't necessarily see a 100% correlation between the two notifications. Audio signalling by ToS don't guarantee a crash, however. Those most likely to cause a crash appear to be notifications, of which there are several. Opening and closing bells don't generally result in a crash, though I did experience (a couple of months ago) at least one crash apparently caused by the closing bell. This is a fresh 12.04 install, done in August 2012. I have always kept it up to date. The system is an HP Pavilion dv6 with quad-core AMD A8 with integral ATI video processor(s), and 6 GB main memory. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1082606 Title: "system program problem detected" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/1082606/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
