fwiw this is not iLO specific, any hardware which is intercepting text mode consoles for out of band administration, will be affected.
my anecdotal experience suggests that server people care deeply about remote console access and end up working around this either by disabling KMS, or by configuring grub/linux/getty to talk to a serial port. If we can fix things so the experience out of the box is awesome, that would be fantastic. Is it actually possible for the kernel to detect that there is a piece of hardware intercepting its text mode VGA calls? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1178115 Title: nomodeset is needed on server environments for ILO to be usable To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1178115/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
