It looks like I didn't upgrade from 13.04 beta to the final release
properly. Since I have done the clean install I have been able to
reboot w/out hanging and power off actually powers off. In addition,
while I have seen a few of the kernel messages about the hard disk, they
do not repeat and the system is operating properly I'll open a new bug
if it comes back.
