Public bug reported:

hi,

my specs:

nb acer travelmate 382tmi
intel 855gm gfx chipset
ctx 19" crt
xubuntu feisty 7.04
xorg 1.3.0
xrandr 1.2

due to heavy problems getting an external display to work at the vga
port with a resolution other than that of the built-in notbook tft
(1024x768), i upgraded to Xorg 1.3.0, updated the xserver-xorg-video-
intel driver to 2.0.0 and Xrandr to 1.2

now finally i was able to switch my external crt to the desired
resolution e.g. using Xrandr --output VGA --mode 1600x1200.

after i upgrading xserver-xorg-video-intel to version 2.1.0 and
restarting X or rebooting, switching resolutions using Xrandr was not
possible any more. there was no error message, but the above command had
no effect at all.

** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu)
