Oh. How webbrowser API works:
1) First check alternatives. If you have a valid browser linked at
/etc/alternatives/{gnome,x}-www-browser webbrowser API will use that
2) If the alternatives symlinks are wrong or doesn't exists, webbrowser API
gets web browser string from gconf data
(/desktop/gnome/url-handlers/http/command).
The "Preferred Applications" only sets gconf data and not alternatives,
so.. if you have more browsers installed, could be good to check the
gnome-www-browser and x-www-browser symlinks on /etc/alternatives too,
pointing to your default browser (e.g. /usr/bin/firefox).
