Ubuntu better. However, it appears this problem may be occurring because
of an Octave Forge package that is not provided by Ubuntu. The error
message refers to symbolic-1.1.0, but the version of octave-symbolic in
Ubuntu 12.04 is 1.0.9. Can you verify whether the package is owned by an
Ubuntu package or was installed locally?
Please run:
dpkg -S /usr/lib/octave/packages/3.2/*-* /usr/share/octave/packages/3.2/*-*
to determine which Octave packages are and are not installed from
supported Ubuntu packages.
