Just branching isn't sufficient. You need to rebuild the package as well. If you have all the prerequisites installed this should be a matter of running "debuild" to build the packages and then "debi" to install them. > Ok, so I ran apt-get install again. You probably want to install "samba" instead. The samba4 package in precise is a pre-release and experimental.
