D'oh. Another user tested this and confirmed that the bug is invalid --
everything works fine. Before I noticed there was a package, I installed
from the tar from the project's Web site, which didn't work. I think
tried to uninstall (using make distclean) before installing the package
from repositories -- looks like it didn't work. Sorry for the mix up!
