Public bug reported:

I upgraded using console do-release-upgrade on i386 (Intel Pentium 4 HT with
64bit support) from 12.10 to 13.04.
After installing a couple of packets during upgrade including libc, all
subproccesses startet to segfault in libc-2.17.so , so upgrade abortet though
the system was in an unusable state.

Booting into initramfs gives me a console but chroot /root bash fails
with a double free error and chroot ... dpkg as well as other tools
still fail with libc segfault.

I could not find any information about raised hardware requirements but would
have expected do-release-upgrade to check for them if applicable.
