This normally happens after a boot fails for any reason, so something
probably went wrong, and manually choosing the entry and booting
successfully is what fixed it rather than the dpkg-reconfigure. If this
happens again, press C to go to the grub command line and use the set
command to look at the value of the recordfail variable. If it is set
to 1, then that is what happened.
