Public bug reported: Any PCM audio that I play through the SPDIF output is distorted on my system. The distortion sounds like severe clipping. The distortion happens at any volume and doesn't get worse as volume is increased. Different mixer settings do not help. Also .asoundrc tricks (such as position_fix=1 and setting different models) do not work.
The analog output is completely distortion-free. So, to recap, I'm playing music with an audio player (in my case Rhythmbox). The sound goes to the analog output of the AD1988 chip as well as the digital SPDIF output. The sound from the analog output is clear. But at the same time sound from the digital output is heavily distorted. I'm using Ubuntu 7.04 x86_64 with a Core 2 Duo setup using Asus P5B Deluxe/WiFi motherboard. The motherboard has an integrated AD1988 sound chip. I have tried updating ALSA drivers and libraries to 1.0.14 but it didn't help. The problem is apparent with the stock ALSA in Ubuntu 7.04 as well as in the updated version. I have run the ALSA information script and the results are online at: http://pastebin.ca/638350 ** Affects: alsa-driver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Distorted sound with AD1988 via SPDIF https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/129201 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
