We have a stock cable connections at our appartment. We are behind a
cable router. Our ISP is UPC. There is defintly no DNSfiltering going
on.

That being said, I was on vacation for the last few days. When I came
back today Skype started working normally again. I suspect a hick-up
courtesy of our ISP since I did not change a single setting since then.
Strange though that the problem only occured with the latest version of
Skype under Ubuntu. The computer was not updated since then.
