The same thing happens on a CoreDuo T2300 / IntelĀ® 945GME x86/MMX/SSE2.

Also there is something funny with the graphics when there are
transparencies/overlays. See the bottom left corner of the search
screen: http://i.imgur.com/AYGtyDk.png

I was able to make it work if I plug in an external monitor, after
blindly logging in  (yes, typing the password hoping the focus is on the
log-in screen), then if I press the fn key + F4 (in my keyboard that is
the combination to switch from the built-in display to the extenal
monitor) then built in display starts working.
