You have not specified which version of synaptic and ubuntu you are
using. Always use ‘ubuntu-bug’ to report issues.

What does “it will not” mean? Is there some error message displayed
when you try? Is the program absent from the list of software? Note
that kaddressbook moved to universe in quantal.
What is the output from these commands:
$ apt-cache policy
$ dpkg -l kaddressbook
$ sudo apt-get install kaddressbook
** Changed in: synaptic (Ubuntu)
Status: New => Incomplete
