Let me just say that Skype spends a great deal of money obfuscating their code so that no one can find valuable debugging info to analyze the problem and find a solution. I kinda think this is a dead end. Let me ask you a few questions just to see if your situation matches mine (a hardware problem): 1- did you try upgrading your skype version? You can get a .deb for Skype 1.4 beta (I'm currently using it with no problems, you should give it a try). 2- do you have other programs with similar segmentation fault errors? I discovered the hardware issue not because of Skype but thanks to Bazaar, because I was experiencing the same issue and one bzr's developer help me diagnosing it (that's the cool thing about open source: you can get the same guy that write the thing helping you with it). If you have other programs with the same error you should try reporting the crash file to them, you might find more help than with Skype.
