@Thomas H St.Clair: The patch needs to be applied on the sources tree of the device driver while building the .deb package. As my current laptop runs Fedora only, and as for the moment I can't get an Ubuntu machine with all the build environment needed, you need a generous developer in this thread to check if the patch applies correctly in the current sources tree of the Ubuntu package (see my comment #27) and to build the package for you.
