Preliminary results suggest no fix, but there's a hiccup:

[104371.521583] Clocksource tsc unstable (delta = 468697105616 ns)
[104371.548267] Switching to clocksource acpi_pm

That's nearly 8 minutes of lost time, with no other indication of a CPU
lock.

Because of this very issue, my /etc/default/grub previously contained:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="notsc clocksource=acpi_pm"

Unbeknownst to me, his had been auto-commented as part of the 3.10
installation. Now that we're back on acpi_pm, we'll see what happens.

It would make sense that the tsc issue and my hard locks are tied to the
same cause, but as I understand tsc is unstable for Pentium D and should
be avoided.
