Public bug reported:

On Acer Aspire 5001 and Acer Aspire 5050, the integrated soundcard`s
microphone doesn`t work, a manual alsa-lib, alsa-driver and alsa-utils
update can fix these issues, the latest version of alsa is 1.0.14a
feisty has alsa 1.0.13-3, in feisty`s default version alsamixer doesn`t
start, and neighter does most mixer programs, kmix however does and
displays a fraction of the soundcards settings, but NO microphone option
and other recording capabilities, so recording is totally disabled in
feisty`s default alsa version, after the ugrade of the alsa packagees,
all recording capabilities and options of the soundcard are displayed,
but as an unnatural side effect, the laptop`s volum keys don`t function
correctly, it displays what needs to be displayed when I increase or
decrease the volum. but for some reason it doesn`t effect the playback
volum, this may be because my lack of configuring everything and/or
compiling all alsa packages, but even if it`s impossible to get the
volum keys working with the new version of alsa, it`s better to have the
microphone working at all.

This may affect other laptops(and/or Desktop PC`s) than my Acer Aspire
5001.
