Hmmm I had the same problem, in the past I have had a much better
experience with ReiserFS than the more traditional filesystems such as
ext2 and ext3 (infact even the relatively new JFS didn't take long
before becoming corrupt). So when coming to install I wanted to use the
most dependable filesystem ReiserFS, I originally used the new Live CD
installer but the partitioning tool did not allow one to format in to
ReiserFS and I really do not know why as it is in the kernel so I had to
use the text based installer instead.

The only thing that concerns me is that this may have been done
purposefully and in which case I shall have to change distributions if
there is no work around (like the one I had to use for Dapper) in future
releases.
