Running 3.10 RC6 does not show the vmalloc allocation failure like 3.8. 
Consequently, the Wifi is working.
However, there is another error from the intel driver:

The visible symptom is that the screen remains black during boot instead
of showing the Ubuntu splash screen.

I don't know if this is sufficient to tag the issue as fixed. All in
all, that kernel does not fully work on my laptop, period.
