I tried updating. The first time it didn't bring down the latest
restricted modules but after restarting then updating again, it did
bring down the modules :-)

Weird it took a couple of tries though.

I wonder, is it possible to make kernel updates depend on restricted
modules when restricted modules are already installed on a system? I
don't mind dabbling to get this working, but I guess if this happened on
a release version of Ubuntu, to a new or inexperienced user, they would
be scared off by the x server error message.
