_dan_, sorry for the bad experience you had in this bug report. I understand how the report started out filed against update-manager: that's one of the ways to access software-properties. Unfortunately, that meant the report doesn't yet contain the hardware and driver information that would be useful in figuring out what went wrong.
If you're still willing to contribute for a few minutes, :-) could you please enter this command in a terminal: apport-collect 1126234 That should automatically attach info relevant to the bug.
