Yes. I plugged the USB sound adapter into a different port and the
logged warnings persisted.

The laptop has 1 through 8 USB buses listed by lsusb, but only 3
external ports.

Currently (and originally) attached as:

Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 005 Device 002: ID 0d8c:000c C-Media Electronics, Inc. Audio Adapter

I temporarily tried it on:

Bus 006 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub

which has two ports. I didn't bother trying it on both ports of that
hub.
