And in VarLogDistupgradeAptlog.txt you can see all the mess that
installing mate caused. My best advice is to just backup your data and
reinstall. Or you could go to the guys who develop that mate stuff and
ask them how to undo the brokenness their packages caused. Either way,
this isn't a bug in Ubuntu so I'm closing it.
