Public bug reported: Binary package hint: adept
While going through the install process for applications at a recent InstallFest, the user was somewhat surprised that screenshots or icons were not included in the package summary view. It would be nice if there were some kind of preview for applications (falling back to and/or including the application icon), so that users would be able to get a visual idea of what the application was used for. For console applications -- or if a screenshot does not seem suitable and an icon is not available -- a <no preview available> placeholder may be appropriate. I was referred to download.com as an example of this, which uses 160x120 jpeg images (although png would be preferable) for applications. Just as a starting point, here's one such application with a screenshot: http://www.download.com/Ghost-Installer-Free- Edition/3000-2216_4-10306270.html I've done a mock-up of what this might look like in adept, by adding an image of the application, umbrello, into the bottom right corner of a screenshot found at www.kubuntu.org: http://user.interface.org.nz/~gringer/pics/adept-screenshot_preview.png This is not a bug specifically for adept (it would be applicable to all graphical installers), but adept was the package that was being used at the time it was noticed. ** Affects: adept (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Graphical installers don't include application previews https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/130086 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
