I arrived at this bug thread via http://askubuntu.com/questions/305069/software-updater-window-not-displaying-though-open-in-13-04 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_Updater and https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1001067 which shows as duplicate of this bug. I have a common property that the askubuntu members had - dual screen. Not sure why that may be an issue, but mentioned as it is common to their descriptions. Also note that contrary to the others, I never experienced this issue in Unity 5.x or 6.x For me, the issue is worthy of observation, but I use the command line for updates and upgrades so it's not really a problem for me. It'd be nice to see the issue fixed in 7.0.0 though.
