Public bug reported:

New to Linux\Win 8 so apologies for oversights.

Asus K55VJ
Windows 8
Nvidia 635M graphics card

After disabling secure boot and enabling CMS in "BIOS" it's possible to
successfully install 12.04 via liveCD. This version cannot be booted
however with a Windows boot error being reported every time. I ran the
(a?) grub boot-repair program via a USB boot but was unable to repair as
the install was invalid. I'm assuming it's a non-UEFI version on a UEFI
laptop?

Created a liveUSB version and tried installing various versions of 12.04
via that. While that enables UEFI install \demo\expert options all lead
to a black screen. Tried replacing the quiet splash with nomodeset or
noquiet and nomodesetbut no effect.

Would try the forums but they're down. Will try Googling\brainstorming
another week but for now am too time poor. Want to see this resolved
before my return option expires - I don't want Win 8!!!
