Same problem here with Ubuntu 12.10 running kernel 3.5.0-37-generic.

SSD 20GB with Btrfs - /
HDD 500 with Ext4 - /home
6GB Ram
Then the "sudo /etc/init.d/lightdm restart" helps me.
