Public bug reported:
Gnome commander does not depend on meld so when I tried to compare two
text files all I got was an error message that meld is missing.
This particular issue has been reported once (bug #587595) but it got
closed as fix released. According to packages.ubuntu.com this issue has
never been fixed.
