Public bug reported:

Since I installed this version of Ubuntu (Xubuntu 12.04 upgraded to
Ubuntu Studio), I occasionally get crackly or fuzzy distortion in the
left audio channel.

It doesn't happen completely consistently, but it often happens while
playing Flash videos in Firefox or editing audio in Audacity. It also
happens pretty much every time I try to use Pure Data with JACK, and I
can also replicate it by opening Audacity while using JACK (which will
create distortion in all audio playing through JACK). But JACK doesn't
need to be running at all for the problem to occur.

Entering this command:
rm -r ~/.pulse ~/.asound* ~/.pulse-cookie
in the terminal is the only way I can fix the problem, and sometimes it takes
several tries. I also have to restart some open applications after doing that
to get them to play audio again.

I tried the suggestions on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/PositionReporting , but that didn't solve
the problem.

I have PulseAudio 1:1.1-0ubuntu15.3 installed.
