This is a fresh install of pdksh, so no configuration has been done at
all.
Before each prompt it complains
pdksh: : bad substitution
and this causes $? to contain 1 indicating failure regardless of the outcome of
the command
Example short session:
kevin@treat:~$ pdksh
pdksh: : bad substitution
$ which pdksh
/bin/pdksh
pdksh: : bad substitution
$ echo $?
1
pdksh: : bad substitution
$ exit
kevin@treat:~$
