I just compiled your code snippet on Gutsy and run it.
It seems to stay at either 1708 or 1712 for VIRT column in TOP.
I am not a developer, but it seems to me that this indicate the bug must have
been fixed now.
So I am closing this bug.
Feel free to reopen if you think I am wrong.
