Hi Matthew, there's some strange interaction here between the latest
version of usplash and upstart. I think this might be the same problem
you had with tty1 going missing.
(Note: this is givré's problem ... hungers was something else - he had
old versions of the tty* conffiles)

- tty6 in /etc/event.d), unfortunately those fail to work.
+ also removing "splash" from the command line does too
