I found a workaround. In my case the issue was the hostname containing dashes - and/or be longer than 15 characters. Remove the dashes from your hostname and hosts file, reboot and samba4 should start. I tried to reinstall then and run into the next bug, which is a password not complex enough error. It's pretty broken.
