There are a few other basic things that need to be included here.
Starting with the least difficult, please include what model and
manufacture your computer is, what version of ubuntu you are using, and
whether the keyboard and mouse are connected via USB, or bluetooth, or
in the case of a laptop, built in. After you add these the next steps
can be determined, as the form of connection that the mouse and keyboard
use determines what the next troubleshooting step is.
